Stainless steel processing: dry steam for safer cleaning
During the last edition of Duplex Steel 2026, attention has been increasingly focused not only on stainless steel performance, but also on the maintenance and cleaning methods used throughout production environments.
In duplex stainless steel applications, surface integrity is critical.
Using bleach, chloride-based detergents, strong acids or bases, and aggressive abrasive materials such as metallic pads or powders may accelerate cleaning operations, but can also compromise the passive layer that protects stainless steel surfaces.
Dry steam cleaning enables effective non-abrasive cleaning without chloride-based chemicals, reducing the risk of surface alteration and residual moisture.
It also simplifies maintenance operations on welds, joints, and complex geometries commonly found in sensitive industrial environments.
